GOLDEN JUBILEE 1957-2007
The Society's Annual Conference in
May 2007 marks the beginning of our Golden Jubilee year. The
year starts in the North East of England, which saw the Golden Age
of Christianity in Northumbria, and the year will conclude with the
Society's visit to Rome in May 2008.
At the first meeting of the Society, which took place in 1957 under
the auspices of the Catholic Conference of Ecclesiastical Studies,
just 19 priests in all were present. Our 2007 Conference had some 125 participating members, from at least 13 different
countries - men and women from many walks of life, lay, religious
and cleric. Membership now totals over 500.
A key event in the Jubilee Year was a Mass of Thanksgiving in Westminster
Cathedral, London on Wednesday 24th October, 2007 at 5.30pm.
The chief celebrant was Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, Archbishop
of Westminster, and the homily was given by the Rt Rev John Arnold,
auxiliary bishop of Westminster.
We are grateful to Eddie Tulasiewicz, Westminster
Communications Officer, for the following selection of photographs
from the Mass and Reception afterwards.
